Colt, following on the success of their introduction of a Double Action Revolver in 1877, introduced their large frame size Double Action in 1878, the DOUBLE ACTION FRONTIER REVOLVER. This Model of 1878 allowed Colt to offer their customers a Double Action Revolver in the larger frontier calibers of .44 and .45.
The serial number as indicated from this website http://proofhouse.com/colt/index.html places the date of manufacture as 1890. The bore is bright and shiny with crisp clear rifling. As with many of these early double acting Colts the complicated internal action is playing up. Sometimes it cycles ok, other times not. It may need a good clean or it may require more maintenence. There is a small piece missing from the left hand grip. Otherwise the grips are in excellent condition. Grey patina consistent with a Colt of this age.

The action anomaly is very intermittent. Sometimes the hammer does not seem to get back far enough especially if you pull the trigger slowly. But if you pull the hammer back manually when it sticks then it will cycle fine again for a while. The cylinder lines up well with the barrel and locks into position ok. Otherwise is normal working order.
Australian Laws state that for a firearm auction these details must be supplied - heavy fines apply
